The Grand Karakoram Traverse is our most comprehensive and challenging trek, designed for experienced mountaineers and adventurers seeking the ultimate Karakoram experience. This 30-day expedition takes you through multiple valleys, across numerous glaciers, and over several high passes, providing an unparalleled exploration of the Karakoram Range.
Unlike our other treks that focus on specific destinations like K2 Base Camp, this traverse offers a complete immersion in the diverse landscapes and cultures of the Karakoram. You'll witness not only the majesty of K2 and other 8000m peaks but also explore remote valleys rarely visited by foreign trekkers.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1-2: Arrival in Islamabad & Flight to Skardu
Arrive in Islamabad and transfer to domestic airport for flight to Skardu (weather permitting). If flight is cancelled, we'll drive via Karakoram Highway (2 days). Overnight in hotel.
Day 3: Skardu Preparation Day
Final preparations, equipment check, and briefing. Visit local market for any last-minute supplies. Overnight in hotel.
Day 4: Drive to Askole
Jeep drive to Askole (3,000m), the last village before the wilderness. Meet porters and organize loads. Overnight camping.
Day 5-9: Trek to Concordia via Baltoro Glacier
Five-day trek along the mighty Baltoro Glacier, passing through Paiju, Khoburtse, Urdukas, and Goro II before reaching Concordia (4,650m). Views of Trango Towers, Cathedral Spires, and Masherbrum. Overnight camping.
Day 10: K2 Base Camp Excursion
Day trip to K2 Base Camp (5,150m) with spectacular views of the world's second-highest mountain. Return to Concordia for overnight camping.
Day 11-12: Trek to Ali Camp via Broad Peak Base Camp
Trek to Ali Camp (5,000m) via Broad Peak Base Camp, preparing for the Gondogoro La crossing. Rest and acclimatization. Overnight camping.
Day 13: Cross Gondogoro La Pass
Early morning start (usually around 1 AM) to cross the challenging Gondogoro La pass (5,585m). Spectacular panoramic views of K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I-IV, and many more peaks. Descend to Khuspang. Overnight camping.
Day 14-15: Trek to Hushe & Drive to Skardu
Trek down to Hushe village and drive back to Skardu for rest and resupply. Overnight in hotel.
Day 16: Drive to Askole
Return to Askole to begin the second leg of our traverse. Meet new porters and organize loads. Overnight camping.
Day 17-19: Trek to Biafo Glacier
Three-day trek along the Biafo Glacier, one of the world's longest glaciers outside polar regions. Camp at Namla, Mango, and Karpogoro. Overnight camping.
Day 20-21: Snow Lake Exploration
Reach and explore Snow Lake (4,800m), one of the world's largest alpine basins. Rest and acclimatization day. Overnight camping.
Day 22: Cross Snow Lake Pass
Cross the challenging Snow Lake Pass (5,800m), the highest point of our journey. Descend to the upper reaches of the Hispar Glacier. Overnight camping.
Day 23-26: Trek along Hispar Glacier
Four-day trek along the Hispar Glacier, passing through spectacular mountain scenery. Camp at various points along the glacier. Overnight camping.
Day 27: Reach Hispar Village
Reach Hispar village, marking the end of our glacier traverse. Celebrate with the local community. Overnight camping.
Day 28: Drive to Karimabad, Hunza
Jeep drive to Karimabad in the beautiful Hunza Valley. Visit Baltit Fort if time permits. Overnight in hotel.
Day 29-30: Drive to Islamabad & Departure
Drive along the Karakoram Highway to Islamabad (2 days). Farewell dinner and departure.
Important Note
This itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, group fitness levels, and other factors. Safety is our primary concern, and the guide may modify the route if necessary. The trek includes multiple contingency days to account for potential delays.
Required Experience
The Grand Karakoram Traverse is our most challenging trek and requires significant previous experience:
- Previous high-altitude trekking experience (above 5,000m)
- Experience with multi-week wilderness expeditions
- Good physical fitness and endurance
- Experience with basic mountaineering techniques (for pass crossings)
- Comfort with camping in remote areas for extended periods
- Mental resilience and adaptability
